‘LA LUMBRE’,

BLACK BOTTOM VOLCANO

NORTHERN ARIZONA

©MORNING SKY

SP-47,NORTHERN ARIZONA

There are many volcanoes in northern Arizona. In times not that long ago, they altered our lands. Forty stories up to the top and forty stories to the depths within, a steep climb welcomes any who wish to enter.
On one summer day, with the air reaching 125 degrees, I accepted her invitation. Black volcanic rock tore at my moccasins, my legs burned.
In days gone past, She sent her fire into the sky.
On this day, she sent her fire into the Morning Sky.
She is officially known as ‘Black Bottom’, the Elders give her the name ‘La Lumbre’.  The Elders are absolutely right.
North of Flagstaff are many, many volcanoes. This one has no name. She is called SP-47.
She drew blood.
She is fiery and amazing.
Be careful with her.
