THE INVADERS

And finally, it is important to point out that there are parasites than can manipulate their human hosts.
The Toxoplasma gondii is a tiny microscopic parasite that can and does invade the human system and goes after the brain. Quote: “Psychologists have found that the Toxoplasma parasite changes the personality of its human hosts, bringing different shifts to men and women. Men become less willing to submit to moral standards of a community, less worried about being punished for breaking society’s rules, and more distrustful of other people.” Women, too, begin to behave unlike they did before. All because of a tiny ‘invader’.
The following are quotes taken from the latest studies on parasites:
“The notion that tiny creatures we’ve largely taken for granted are such a dominant
force is immensely disturbing. Even after Copernicus took Earth out of the center
of the universe and Darwin took humans out of the center of the living world, we
still go through life pretending that we are exalted above other animals. Yet we
know that we, too, are collections of cells that work together, kept harmonized by
chemical signals. If an organism can control those signals -
“It’s time to put the parasite alongside the lion.”
“As scientists discover more and more parasites and uncover the extent and complexity of their machination, they are fast coming to an unsettling conclusion: Far from simply being along for the ride, parasites may be one of nature’s most powerful driving forces.”
Many scientists agree, parasites may very well be the most powerful driving force on our planet. (In more ways than the experts may know.)
